Google Analytics

Analytics & Tracking

The Service

Google Analytics is a widely used web and app analytics platform that tracks user behavior, traffic sources, conversion funnels, and marketing ROI. It provides detailed reports, dashboards, real-time data, and custom metrics. GA4, its latest generation, offers event-based tracking, cross-device measurement, user-centric modeling, and AI-powered insights. Businesses use it to monitor SEO/SEM performance, understand user journeys, and optimize engagement. Integration with Google Ads, Tag Manager, BigQuery, and Firebase makes GA a cornerstone of digital marketing strategies worldwide.

Availability in China

The service is accessible under certain conditions, but not fully reliable or consistently available in mainland China.

Google Analytics is partially available in mainland China. While the domain itself (analytics.google.com) is often inaccessible, some GA tracking scripts and measurement endpoints (such as www.google-analytics.com/collect) are intermittently reachable. This means tracking codes may function sporadically but often result in incomplete data due to blocked requests or delayed event delivery. Data accuracy and reliability are significantly compromised, especially for high-traffic Chinese websites or mobile apps. Local ISPs and corporate firewalls may also filter outbound telemetry to Google. To address this, Chinese websites typically switch to domestic analytics providers like CNZZ (友盟+), GrowingIO, or SensorsData (神策数据). These services offer similar dashboards and support A/B testing, cohort analysis, and attribution modeling, while ensuring compliance with data localization regulations. Developers targeting China should consider dual analytics setups—one for global users using GA and one local tracker for Chinese users. Note that user consent handling and cross-border data sharing must align with China’s PIPL (Personal Information Protection Law) as of 2021.
